Guys, it fine! They are taking a 3-day course to be fully trained and capable to handle a school shooting situation! But hey, don’t let facts get in the way of your snarkish fearmongering. Matt Zev surely the fearmongering that has led to the current situation is due NRA gun nut types managing to convince the population that schools are dangerous places – but they have engineered this by making it come true. Everywhere is, in fact, dangerous because they have deliberately created a system whereby any mad fool can get an arsenal of lethal weapons in their local supermarket. Presumably, school shooters will now include bulletproof vests in their order unless they are trying to commit suicide by cop.

Our local school limited access to our school’s campus developed a security plan and armed willing teachers and administrators after Columbine and there’s never been a firearm incident at our school. Our principal is a veteran and his brother, also a veteran, is the county sheriff, and they weren’t going to sit back and let our kids become senseless victims. When my boy went there he volunteered to be a door locker and an evacuation route director. But then our school is also excellent at addressing children with issues. I know more than a few families that told me they specifically moved into our school district because it scores higher in academics and graduation rates than most of the Jolliest bunch of Nurses this side of the nuthouse christmas sweater schools in our state. trained police officers have an accuracy rate of around 30-40% for shootings. This should work out well for teachers and principals.
