Maybe it depends on the phone. I’ve had the same smartphone for 4 years and it still works fabulously. I just let it update whenever it says it needs too and I have it in a protective case and treat it nice. But then again I don’t have an iPhone. Can’t understand why people must buy new every year or so, except for those who must have the Team Horror Friends Halloween Shirt gadget fad, there’s really no need to. But my last couple has definitely been ready to be replaced when the contract has ended. At the end of the day, it’s not the consumer’s responsibility. It’s the responsibility of the government’s, phone makers and sellers to ensure that phones are built to last a few years, and b, consumers have some kind of incentive to keep the same phone for a few years. A month ago I tried to give several old phones to charity shops and repair shops and they didn’t want to know, they said they were useless so took them to the Team Horror Friends Halloween Shirt dump. If the are able to e recycled this needs to be publicized more. For future ref where can we take them. My phone contains personal data and will go into a box of old electronics in a closet somewhere.
